To już 33. gala rozdania nagród MTV Video Music Awards! Tegoroczną edycję zorganizowano w słynnej hali Madison Square Garden w Nowym Jorku. Najwięcej kategorii zdobyła Beyoncé, co potem przełożyło się na ilość nagród. Wokalistka wygrała aż osiem statuetek i tym samym została najbardziej docenioną artystką w historii MTV VMA.
